Northlands College is seeking an Instructor, Health faculty. The position is located in La Ronge, Saskatchewan and the position works on-site.

Position Summary

The Instructor, Health Faculty is an in-scope position reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Health Programs . They will work alongside other health program instructors to achieve common goals within a variety of health programs.

The Instructor is responsible for organizing and delivering education program curriculum and content to meet the learning outcomes of the program.

The instructor may provide clinical supervision for a variety of health programs : Continuing Care Assistant, Practical Nursing and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

The Instructor works within the accrediting institute curriculum promoting academic success and personal growth with the learners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Play an active role in delivering health curriculum in a variety of programs, classes and settings. Preparation time for the courses is included in the approved schedule.
  • Prepare class sessions and assignments to help learners grasp course content as well as the integration with overall learner learning outcomes for the course.
  • Evaluate learner performance in theory and lab, following guidelines and standards set out by the accrediting institute.

Evaluate learner progress and provide feedback.

  • Create a learning environment that encourages learner involvement and participation.
    Document learners’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and / or examinations that lead to a final grade.
  • Stay informed about changes and innovations in program field.
  • Participate in program, campus, accrediting institute, industry and professional or other stakeholder activities, as required.
  • Identify appropriate resource material (i.e. video, print material, web based material, etc) and work with supervisor to secure the materials.
  • Arrange for appropriate guest speakers.
  • Participate in the College evaluation of the program by : maintaining records and documents on the progress of the participants, and;

maintaining other data required for evaluation purposes.

  • Deliver courses using a variety of teaching strategies, including blended learning.
    After required HSP net training, work to input learners into HSP net for practicums / clinical placements.
  • Develop and administer formative evaluation tools.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned to contribute to learner success and a positive participation experience in College programs and activities.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing and registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) .

Must be an RN and fully licensed with CRNS .

  • Minimum of two years recent training and experience, within the past five years, clinical / teaching experience in the areas of long-term care, in-home care and special care settings.
    Ability to obtain a full security clearance for practicum facilities. The results of the security clearance must be is satisfactory to Northlands College.
  • Knowledge of competency-based education.
    Ability to organize, prepare and present information in a concise and complete manner which will allow others to understand and comprehend the course material and learning objectives and achieve desired learning.
  • Ability to engage with learners in a positive manner that assists and motivates them and contributes to their learning success.
  • Demonstrated ability to have positive interpersonal relationships with all educational stakeholders : staff, partners and clients.
    Demonstrated understanding of Northern Saskatchewan communities and the ability to work within a multi-cultural environment and to promote and encourage diversity,
  • individual dignity and mutual respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the theory, practices and principles of adult education.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of : group dynamics and processes , adult learning styles , program content, and evaluation techniques.
  • Use a variety of group facilitation techniques, demonstrate leadership, modeling and teaching interaction skills.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment
  • The successful candidate must be able to (or willing to learn how to) effectively deliver curriculum via a blended or online delivery model.
  • The accrediting institute for this program is Saskatchewan Polytechnic. The successful candidate must meet the accrediting institute’s requirements.
